How to Use

Measure the required amount of shampoo base into a clean mixing vessel. Add your fragrance at 1–2%, liquid extracts at 1–3%, and liquid colours at 0.1–0.5%, stirring gently between each addition to avoid incorporating air bubbles. Do not shake vigorously. Fill directly into shampoo bottles or pouches. No heating required for most additions — if adding oil-soluble actives, warm the base gently to 40°C before mixing.

A: Water-soluble extracts work best — bhringraj, amla, hibiscus, neem, shikakai, onion extract, keratin hydrolysate, biotin, or panthenol. Add at 1–5% total. Avoid adding high proportions of oil-soluble ingredients as they can cloud the base or cause separation.

Q: Will adding herbal extracts affect the base viscosity?
A: Small additions (up to 5%) typically have minimal impact on viscosity. If the base becomes too thin after adding watery extracts, you can adjust with a small amount of sodium chloride (table salt) — add 0.1–0.5% and stir to check thickening.

Q: How much fragrance should I add?
A: We recommend 1–2% for hair products. For leave-in or daily-use shampoos, stay at 1% to avoid scalp sensitisation. Always use cosmetic-grade or shampoo-compatible fragrance oils.

Q: Can I add silicone or conditioning agents like BTMS or cetrimonium chloride?
A: The base already has conditioning properties built in. For enhanced conditioning, you can add water-soluble conditioning agents like panthenol (0.5–2%) or hydrolysed proteins (1–3%). Avoid adding cationic conditioners like BTMS as they can cause precipitation with the anionic surfactants in the base.

Q: Does this base need a preservative?
A: The base is pre-preserved. However, if you add significant quantities of water-based extracts or dilute the base, additional preservation (e.g. 0.5–1% phenoxyethanol) is recommended to maintain microbial stability in the finished product.

Q: How many 200 ml shampoo bottles does 1 kg fill?
A: Approximately 4–5 bottles of 200 ml, depending on the density of your final formulation.

Q: Can I add dry herbal powders directly to this base?
A: Powders can cause grittiness and instability in liquid bases. Instead, use liquid herbal extracts or pre-dissolve powders in a small amount of warm water before adding to the base. Filter if necessary before adding.

Q: Is this base suitable for colour-treated or chemically processed hair?
A: Yes — the mild, conditioning formula is suitable for colour-treated, bleached, or chemically straightened hair. Adding keratin hydrolysate at 2–3% further enhances its suitability for damaged hair.
